Compliance Policy
Purpose The purpose of this Compliance Policy is to establish the principles and guidelines under which Remedy Pharmacy ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, including but not limited to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, and applicable New York State pharmacy regulations. Remedy Pharmacy is committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, ethical conduct, and legal compliance in all operations and patient care activities.
Scope This Compliance Policy applies to all Remedy Pharmacy employees, contractors, volunteers, and third-party business associates. The policy governs all activities related to the provision of pharmacy services, the handling of protected health information (PHI), financial transactions, and interactions with patients, healthcare providers, and regulatory authorities.

3. Prescription Handling
Prescriptions are filled accurately and in compliance with applicable laws.
Prior authorizations and insurance approvals are managed promptly to prevent delays in patient treatment.
Pharmacists review each prescription for potential interactions, contraindications, and compliance with legal requirements.
4. Patient Safety and Support
Remedy Pharmacy provides patient education to ensure safe and effective use of medications.
A licensed pharmacist is available 24/7 to address emergency questions about medications.
The pharmacy monitors for and responds to adverse drug reactions and medication recalls promptly.
Privacy and Confidentiality
1. Protected Health Information (PHI)
Remedy Pharmacy maintains strict safeguards to protect the confidentiality and security of PHI in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Written authorization is required for the disclosure of PHI unless otherwise permitted by law.
2. Data Security
All electronic health records and data systems are encrypted and access controlled.

Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Prevention

Medication Management and Safety
1. Storage and Handling
- Medications are stored in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, including refrigeration where required.
- Proper protocols are in place for handling, labeling, and disposal of medications
2. Emergency Preparedness
- Remedy Pharmacy maintains contingency plans to ensure medication access during natural disasters or other emergencies.
3. Returns and Disposal
- Medications cannot be returned once dispensed, in accordance with New York Board of Pharmacy regulations.
- Remedy Pharmacy provides guidance on the safe disposal of unused or expired medications, including sharps and other medical waste.
Training and Education
1. Employee Training
- All employees receive comprehensive training on compliance, privacy, and ethical conduct upon hire and periodically thereafter.
2. Patient Education
- Patients are educated on proper medication use, potential side effects, and safe storage and disposal practices.
Monitoring and Enforcement
1. Compliance Oversight
- Remedy Pharmacy has a designated Compliance Officer responsible for monitoring adherence to this policy and applicable laws.
2. Investigations
- All reported compliance concerns are investigated promptly and thoroughly.
3. Corrective Actions
- Violations of this policy may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination, as well as reporting to relevant regulatory authorities if required.
